Small Business: My First Sale!

I can’t believe it! Right after I posted my no sales yet post, I got one! I was so excited I was dancing (as well as I can dance) around the office singing “I got a sale, I got a sale!”

The biggest thing I need now is to manage my time. So I am starting to break it down and figure out how much time I need for each part of my day. I don’t want to be a workaholic, but I want to get things done. Right now I am missing time on a lot of things because I am stuck to the computer. Social media can suck you right in if you aren’t careful. I had two days where that was all I did! So now I have a routine I want to try and stick to and not allow myself to do all marketing and finance parts. I need production too! And I need to clean my house, care for my dog, relax some, keep up with spiritual things (that’s a must), etc.

I made a great vision board to help remind me of all the parts of my life that I need to pay attention to.

How about you? How do you manage your time?

Funny, I went to a pictures site that is free and find this great picture, just what I wanted. Turned out it was my picture! Ha!

What Design Should Come Next?

So I was thinking it would be great to let y’all pick the next design I put up in my store. So here is a poll to give you a chance to pick. I figure I’ll give it until a week from Friday and then I’ll put the design up that day. That is the 14th. So give the designs a look and let me know what you think!

YouTube Site…I Made a Video!

I don’t really know whether to be scared or nervous or excited about this one! Me on camera, left to my own devices. Hmm. So, the two things I do wrong are: I don’t look at the camera enough and I say “um” a lot! But otherwise I don’t suppose it is too bad.

An Introduction

I don’t have any products yet to share with everyone, but I hope that by the time I do my next video I will. I do wish I understood how to edit the video. I don’t like that you see me getting up and down to turn the camera on and off. Editing that out would be nice.

Mostly I talk about how I got started in art and what I have done and am doing. I talk a little about my grandmother, the most creative person I have ever known. And I share some of my older paintings and drawings as well. I hope you will check it out and enjoy!

And remember to visit my store to see what I have. The promo code “myblog” is active through the 9th. That’s 10% off. So come check it out.

Opening Day!

Not too much to report. Things start slow, and it isn’t like a brick and mortar store where people drive by and say “hey! Let’s drop in.” I do have a facebook ad out, nothing big, just 20 bucks worth. And that seems to have helped. I had 14 people visit the store so far, but no sales. I do know that I have one in my future as my aunt said she had picked something out. I imagine that will be a payday sort of thing. But it is out there.

I was actually quite busy with other things, facebook and I were fighting this morning. Twitter and I have never been great friends. I don’t have a clue how to get anyone to follow me as I don’t have friends on twitter that I am aware of. Then I had to work on my office space, like I said somewhere today, I am very disorganized and I have to improve. Where did I say it, I thought it was just right here! My mind is going. I also signed up for a youtube account for the business and spent a good deal of time trying to create my first video. That was fun! You can find me at Kendall Stewart’s Art Shop, at least I think that is how you find me.

Tomorrow I have some personal things that have to be taken care of. But then I hope to have time to set up an instagram account for the business. I think I can handle that. And as I missed out on painting today, the first day in over a month, I hope I manage that.

Oh! I did some accounting and figured out how much my business owes me and WOW! Not as bad as it could be, but still I hadn’t realized I had spent so much.

So that has been my day, not so much in a nut shell! The important thing is I am having fun. I really, really am!

Grand Opening Tomorrow!!

I can’t believe tomorrow is it. Of course, I’ve been open all along, but everything is actually up now. I’m so new to this, I hope it all looks okay, not too cluttered. I hate cluttered websites. Wish I felt as strongly about cluttered desks!

So don’t forget, promo code “myblog” gets 10% off of everything, except shipping.

Here are some of the designs you’ll find there:

The Fun of Starting a Small Business Continues!

So it has been busy, busy, busy! At this point I think the only thing I have left is opening my bank account! I can’t do that though until I get some paperwork back from the state.

I am looking into getting a new scanner, or printer/scanner, that is a higher definition than mine. What I scan is fine for here, but if I want to spread it out over a tapestry or a blanket, or a canvas, well, not so much at all. Problem is I don’t know anything about scanners and so I need to do some research. I don’t have thousands of dollars, but there are some scanners that sound like they are high definition and not so expensive, so maybe I could save the trips to Office Depot and the money to scan.

I have been so busy lately that it has been hard to keep up with my painting and my spiritual routine so today is no business Friday! Except for posting here and uploading one design later on today. We’ll see if I can keep to that. Truth be told, I am loving doing it all. It is exciting and nerve racking and fun. Kind of like a roller coaster. I have just always wanted to share my art, the good pieces anyway. It started here, but this is such a broader opportunity, I mean it could be in people’s homes! I never would have imagined that!
